Cardiovascular health

The health of your whole body is directly contingent upon the health of your vascular system and heart. In fact, the vascular system is the highway for the delivery of crucial elements required for the optimal functioning of every cell in the body. When this system breaks down, you’re not only at risk for cardiovascular diseases, but cognitive decline, pain, neuropathy and more.

Early and regular preventative cardiovascular screenings alongside carefully designed lifestyle interventions mean you may not only prevent cardiovascular disease but safeguard your entire body for overall health and longevity.

Screenings we offer

Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) Scan with Vasolabs

A non-invasive ultrasound that measures the thickness of the inner layers of the carotid artery. This test detects early arterial plaque and inflammation before symptoms appear—helping assess heart attack and stroke risk earlier than traditional imaging. We offer this screening monthly with Vasolabs at BioLounge. Call or text 971-770-1655 to schedule.

Advanced Lipoprotein Testing (NMR or Ion Mobility)

Goes beyond basic cholesterol panels by measuring lipoprotein particle number and size (e.g., LDL-P, HDL-P). Smaller, dense LDL particles are more atherogenic and often missed on standard lipid tests.

ApoB and Lp(a) testing

  • Apolipoprotein B (ApoB): Reflects the total number of atherogenic particles in the blood—more accurate than LDL-C in predicting cardiovascular risk.

  • Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)]: A genetic risk factor for cardiovascular disease that is not influenced by lifestyle and often goes undiagnosed.

High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP)

A marker of systemic inflammation linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular events. Functional medicine uses this as part of a broader inflammatory and metabolic panel.

Omega-3 Index

Measures EPA and DHA levels in red blood cell membranes. Low levels are associated with increased risk of arrhythmia, plaque formation, and sudden cardiac death.

Homocysteine testing

Elevated levels are associated with endothelial dysfunction and arterial damage. It can be influenced by B vitamin status and methylation function.

Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) scoring

A CT scan that quantifies calcified plaque in coronary arteries. Used to stratify risk and guide preventive interventions, especially in asymptomatic individuals.

Genetic testing (e.g., 9p21, MTHFR, KIF6)

Identifies inherited variations linked to higher cardiovascular risk, methylation imbalances, and altered statin response—supporting precision nutrition and lifestyle planning.
